ARENA RACING COMPANY HOSTS TRIALS AT WOLVERHAMPTON AHEAD OF RACING ON NEW TAPETA SURFACE

Arena Racing Company (ARC) is pleased to have hosted a trial day on the new Tapeta racing surface at Wolverhampton ahead of racing recommencing on Monday 11 August.

On Sunday morning several trainers, including Tom Dascombe, Brian Bough, Lisa Williamson and Mark Loughnane sent horses to work on the track. The horses were worked by Royston Ffrench, Richard Kingscote, Stephen Crane, Kieran O’Neil and Frankie McDonald.

The track has been inspected and approved by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) Racing Department.

Following the trial there has been a range of positive feedback. Jockeys riding on the new surface gave the following viewpoints:

Royston Ffrench said Very impressed, just as we want it, nice, safe consistent.

Richard Kingscote said It rides grand, sound surface, no jar, consistent.

Stephen Crane said It rides very well, no jar, safe, no kickback.

Kieran O’Neil said Very happy, 80% at the moment, but as it beds in say 95% by the 1st meeting.

Frankie McDonald said Great, they’re floating on it.

David Roberts, Managing Director for Wolverhampton, Worcester and Southwell expressed his delight and said, I would very much like to thank everyone who has been involved in re-laying the track at Wolverhampton, as well as the National Trainers Federation (NTF) and Professional Jockeys Association (PJA) for their continued engagement. These are exciting times and we are looking forward to welcoming horsemen and racegoers back again on 11th August.


Fergus Cameron, Clerk of the Course at Wolverhampton, said: We would like to thank the trainers and jockeys for supporting the trial and are pleased the track is riding well. We will continue to work closely with the Tapeta Footings team to ensure the surface is maintained to the highest standard. We are looking forward to seeing the first ever race on a Tapeta surface take place in Great Britain next week.

Michael Dickinson, Founder and Owner of Tapeta Footings, said: We were delighted ARC chose Tapeta to provide the new racing surface at Wolverhampton. The tarmac base has been completely replaced and the team is happy with how the Tapeta has bedded in. We will continue to work closely with the team at Wolverhampton to ensure the track meets the needs of horses and jockeys.

Nicky Carlisle BHA Course Inspector was in attendance at Wolverhampton for the trial, said, I was very pleased with how the trial went, all the jockeys and connections were very happy and positive about the surface which they said was safe and consistent. Like all new surfaces it needs a little time to settle in but all the signs are very positive and we look forward to racing on it next week.
