Arena Racing Company (“ARC”) has provided another thrilling year of popular racing with music nights across the group.
The second season of music nights co-ordinated across a number of ARC’s racecourses kicked off in May at Uttoxeter Racecourse with over 8,000 guests enjoying a superb UB40 concert after racing, which was Uttoxeter’s first ever live music event.
Also in May, back by popular demand, the everlasting rock band Status Quo made a return visit to Doncaster Racecourse having last played there in 2008.
The fabulous summer weather added to the impact with many of the acts playing on warm balmy nights adding to the atmosphere of a great evening out to share with friends and family.
The popular R&B star Jools Holland put on a great show at Chepstow in June and the Kaiser Chiefs enjoyed one of their most successful concerts in Yorkshire with a bumper crowd at Doncaster later in the month.
Tom Jones’s concert at Chepstow was undoubtedly the highlight with tickets selling out in four weeks. Perhaps not a complete surprise as one of the UK’s most famous, world class performers was playing to an adoring home crowd.
As the sun shone into August, James Blunt performed to another fantastic crowd back at Town Moor, where he raised over £10,000 for Help for Heroes a charity close to his heart as a former soldier and which he supports as a patron.
ARC’s racing and music nights rounded off with a grand finale at Wolverhampton last Friday. As part of UB40’s 2014 UK Tour they played to a sell-out crowd of 6,500, which was the biggest event at the racecourse for a number of years and only the second concert staged there.
Mark Spincer, Assistant Group Operations Director ARC, responsible for co-ordinating and managing the concerts said, “I’ve been delighted with the increased popularity in this second year of music concerts across ARC racecourses. We have seen many new faces enjoying both the racing and the music; it is proving very successful with a significant growth in attendance. We have received a lot of very enthusiastic feedback from new and regular customers with many music fans expressing their delight at a night out with a difference, saying they will definitely return to the races. It’s been a pleasure to work with the artists and band members who have been equally enthusiastic and delighted with the venues and reception received. We’re already working on next year’s line-up”.
