Today (Monday 11 April), Royal Windsor Racecourse commences its 2016 season with a new series of sprint races being a highlight of its summer race programme.
The ‘Summer Sprint Series’, will culminate with a £75,000 final on 15 August. The series will comprise of nine qualifying races starting in May, which will predominantly be run at the popular Monday evening fixtures and be worth a minimum of £10,000 each. To qualify to enter the final, horses will be required to finish in the top six in at least one of the qualifying races.
Whilst most of the races that will incorporate the Summer Sprint Series are within the existing race programme at Royal Windsor Racecourse, they will benefit from upgrades in both class and prize money.
2016 is also a year of celebration for Royal Windsor Racecourse, as it will mark 150 years of racing in the Berkshire town. To mark the occasion, the racecourse will be hosting events throughout the summer and have commissioned award winning local brewery, Windsor and Eton Brewery to create an ‘1866’ beer which will be officially launched during racing on Monday 11 April and available throughout the season.
In addition, Royal Windsor Racecourse will be marking Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th Birthday over the summer, with a Royal Night Out planned for Monday 16 May. An exhibition of the Queen’s racing life, produced by Great British Racing, with a Royal and British theme across the race night.
Royal Windsor Racecourse is also delighted to welcome leading flat trainer Andrew Balding back as their Monday night racing ambassador. In this role Andrew will be marking the card ahead of each evening fixture via his regular Monday morning column - Baldings Bankers, which will feature at www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk. Furthermore, racegoers will be in with a chance of getting behind the scenes at Andrews historic Park House Stables at Kingsclere, via a series of competitions run by Royal Windsor Racecourse. Paddock commentary before races from Andrew will also feature at select fixtures throughout the summer.
