Trainee Clerks of the Course appointed across the Group
Arena Racing Company (“ARC”) are pleased to announce the appointment of Fraser Garrity to the role of Group Racing and Operations Manager. Working closely with Head of Group Racing - Racing & Operations, Charlie Moore, Fraser will take on this new role, overseeing the training of new Clerks of the Course as well as offering general support to the racecourse group’s current Clerks in all elements of racing operations.
Fraser has over 28 years’ experience across a number of roles within British racing, most recently as Racecourse Manager of Chelmsford City since it opened in early 2015, and prior to that as Head of Racecourses at BHA, where he held overall responsibility for the racecourse inspectorate and raceday operations teams, and was Chair of the Joint Accreditation Board for Clerks of the Course.
In addition to the appointment of Fraser Garrity, ARC are pleased to confirm the appointments of a number of trainee Clerks of the Course around the Group.
David Attwood will join Southwell Racecourse to undertake his training, having worked in both British and Irish racecourses and most recently at Duralock Performance Fencing. Between 2015 and 2020, David was Head of Racing and Operations at Leopardstown Racecourse and Operations Executive at Huntingdon Racecourse prior to that.
Richard Fothergill, also formerly of Leopardstown Racecourse, will join Uttoxeter Racecourse as trainee in January, with John Holliday joining Hereford in May. Ben Hicks will take on a similar role at Bath Racecourse, with Charlie Rees joining ARC in a central trainee Clerk role.
Isabelle Mangan has been appointed as Racing Executive at Lingfield Park Racecourse, working closely with Clerk of the Course George Hill, following Stephanie Wethered’s successful Clerk of the Course training. Stephanie takes over the full time Clerk of the Course role at Brighton Racecourse ahead of the 2022 season.
Managing Director of ARC’s Racing Division, Mark Spincer, said, “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Fraser to help support the team of Clerks across our group of racecourses. His experience, most recently at Chelmsford City Racecourse and from his time at BHA will be of real benefit for the whole team but especially the trainees that we have taken on.
“It has long been our ambition to make sure that we have one Clerk of the Course per site, and with various movements in recent months, we hope that we are now in a position to have a broad enough team to offer that. The experience of Charlie Moore and Fraser, alongside our regional Clerks, George Hill, Richard Aldous and Paul Barker will mean that all of our trainees have a real pool of expertise to tap in to and learn from over the coming months.”
Fraser Garrity said, “I am delighted to join the ARC team, and look forward to working closely with Charlie Moore and the Clerks across the various racecourses. Throughout my years in racing across BHA and at racecourses, I’ve always worked closely with Clerks of the Course in all elements of their raceday operation, so this role which will involve much of the training of our new cohort will be ideal.”
